Pastured Poultry

Raising Better Chickens from the Ground Up

Introduction

Pastured Poultry is the process of raising chickens directly on green pasture, allowing the birds to receive a significant amount of natural vegetation as part of their diet.  The birds are moved to a new section of pasture daily, which ensures that they always have a fresh selection of forage - an  “all you can eat” salad-bar for chickens.

The pastured poultry model more closely mimics the natural habitat and diet of the chickens, while simultaneously providing a safe and sanitary environment for them to live in.

A Breed Apart

This year we will be raising Colored Range Broilers - the breed chosen for the prestigious French Label Rouge program.  Derived from the American and European old heritage breeds, the Colored Range Broiler is a hearty, healthy, yellow skinned bird with succulent flavor and texture.  Compared to the industrial standard Cornish X breed, the Colored Ranges are slower growing and much more active and energetic foragers, allowing them to consume a greater quantity of the fresh green foliage which makes pastured poultry so high in Omega 3s.
